October 2015  – A Fall to Remember!

By the end of October, most FastDirect schools will be wrapping up the grading period for 1st quarter.  Here are some FastDirect functions that may need to be addressed:

  • Closing input for 1st mid-quarter reports
  • Opening up teacher input for 1st quarter ReportCards
  • Closing 1st quarter ReportCards when teachers have finished importing grades

If your school started in late August or early September, then you may be gearing up for mid-quarter reports. Click the Newsletter button below to read about the two different ways to create progress reports.

Review Your ReportCards!   One very important step in creating report cards is to make sure everything has been set up correctly.  This requires viewing a student’s report card to double check:

  • Course names
  • Subcategories
  • Grade scales/marking codes
  • Formatting
  • Printing

Administrators: In Finance, all present-day finance transactions can be edited and/or deleted by the original author. Also, some previous-day transaction details can be edited as well.

Teachers: The newest grade book printout report – One Line Per Event, Grade Only (No Averages), will give a list of the events for each course and the grade for each event but will not include any final averaging. This report format is especially helpful for primary grades.

Parents: When viewing your finance account balances in FastDirect, each balance is a clickable link. When you click on a specific balance, you will see a list of all the transactions (deposits & charges) made to that account.

November 2015  – A Season of Holidays!

November typically involves completing the 1st quarter ReportCards and gearing up for mid-quarter reports for 2nd quarter. Here are some FastDirect functions that may need to be addressed: Closing input for 1st mid-quarter reports Opening up teacher input for 1st quarter ReportCards Closing 1st quarter ReportCards when teachers have finished importing grades If your school is printing report cards, keep in mind that you can allow your parents to view them online. This option will save your school time, money and the environment. If a parent signature is needed to verify that they have seen the report cards, then you can create a WildCard field where parents can enter in their initials and the date electronically, letting you know they have viewed the report card. During ReportCard time, you may discover some changes that will need to be made to the format, layout or to the courses themselves. ReportCard changes can take up to a week to process so make sure to plan accordingly.

Administrators: You do not need to wait until January 1st to have a Tuition and Registration account set up for the coming school year. If your school needs to start tracking registration now, HelpDesk can set up a 2016-2017 Tuition and/or Registration account for you at any time.

Teachers: For some teachers, having access to any student’s report card or grade book is essential for their job. With a principal’s request, HelpDesk can allow specific staff accounts access to all grade books and report cards for all students.

Parents: Mark it with a star! Now you can mark specific received FDmail messages as important! These messages will remain in their folders but allow you to view all important messages at one time.
